Iceland is hosting a United Nations expert meeting on global fisheries management in Reykjavík from 23 to 27 February 2026, with nearly 150 experts from over 60 countries attending alongside representatives of international organizations and other stakeholders.
The forum, held at Harpa Concert Hall, is part of the FAO’s Committee on Fisheries (COFI) Sub‑Committee on Fisheries Management, and it is the first in-person session since the sub-committee’s creation. Iceland currently holds the two-year chairmanship.
Discussions focus on sustainable management, science-based approaches, and international cooperation. Delegates are reviewing FAO standards, data collection, and measures against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Iceland’s Foreign Minister emphasized the country’s commitment to responsible ocean use and global fisheries policy.
The meeting aims to strengthen collaboration for long-term fish stock sustainability, food security, and ocean health.
