EU Launches OceanEye

COMPARTE CONTRA VIENTO Y MAREA y KILÓMETROS:

The European Union has unveiled OceanEye, a major initiative designed to strengthen global ocean observation and monitoring capabilities. The project aims to improve marine data collection, support scientific research, and enhance Europe’s ability to address climate change, protect marine ecosystems, and foster the blue economy.

OceanEye will build on existing European assets such as Copernicus Marine and the Digital Twin of the Ocean, a platform that uses real-time data to simulate ocean conditions. These tools will help improve forecasting, fisheries management, maritime security, and biodiversity protection.

The European Commission has also announced an international alliance to secure funding and coordinate global cooperation. The initiative will support the Global Ocean Observing System and help close critical gaps in marine monitoring worldwide.

The EU’s ambition is to provide 35% of the world’s ocean observation capacity and establish a fully operational European Ocean Observation System by 2030, reinforcing Europe’s leadership in marine technology and sustainable ocean management.
