Anfaco and representatives of Morocco’s fishing sector have taken a step towards closer cooperation to address the partial ban on Moroccan sardine exports. During a meeting in Vigo, a delegation from the Association des Amis Halieutis des Commerçants du Poisson of Agadir and Laayoune presented proposals to the Spanish seafood processing industry aimed at restoring trade flows and securing a stable supply of raw material.
The export restrictions have had a significant impact on Spanish canning and seafood processing companies, many of which rely on Moroccan sardines to maintain production. Both sides agreed that stronger dialogue and practical solutions are essential to protect businesses and ensure continuity across the supply chain.
According to Anfaco, maintaining stable trade relations between Spain and Morocco is crucial for the competitiveness of the seafood industry. Meanwhile, the Moroccan delegation expressed its willingness to work with Spanish stakeholders to promote a more balanced and sustainable market. The meeting highlights the shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and supporting long-term growth for the fisheries sector on both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar.
