The Spanish government has advanced the allocation of 2026 fishing quotas<\/strong> for more than 5,000 vessels of the national fleet, aiming to provide stability and predictability to the sector. The measure, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, allows shipowners and crews to plan their campaigns, investments, and staffing in advance, without waiting for the formal approval of European Union regulations.<\/p>\n

The quotas mainly affect fleets based in regions such as Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, and Andalusia. The species included cover some of the most important for Spain\u2019s fishing economy, such as hake, mackerel, anchovy, Norway lobster, and monkfish. In several cases, catch levels remain consistent with 2025, while in others, increases have been recorded\u2014for example, mackerel in the Gulf of C\u00e1diz.<\/p>\n

The government emphasizes that these decisions are based on scientific criteria and stock assessments<\/strong>, seeking to balance resource sustainability with the economic viability of the sector. With this early allocation, Spain reinforces its commitment to responsible management and provides greater certainty for an activity that is key to many coastal regions.<\/p>\n
