Conxemar warns over european bureaucracy

COMPARTE CONTRA VIENTO Y MAREA y KILÓMETROS:

The association Conxemar, which brings together wholesalers, importers, exporters, and processors of frozen seafood products, has denounced that European Union bureaucracy is slowing down the entry of fish into ports such as Vigo, causing delays and additional costs for the sector.

According to the statement, the problem centers on the implementation of the new CATCH system, a European tool linked to the certification and control of fishery imports. Conxemar states that this system is causing delays in document validation and in the release of goods, particularly affecting imports of frozen fish and other products that are highly sensitive to logistics and cold-chain requirements.

The association warns that these obstacles are straining the supply chain, impacting the sector’s competitiveness, and complicating the operations of businesses working with seafood products in the European market. Conxemar calls for the simplification and acceleration of procedures to prevent bureaucracy from becoming a barrier to international fish trade.
